Supporting a 48-Ton Generator Through Factory Acceptance Testing

At Finch of Bookham, our work often begins long before equipment reaches its destination and our lifting services specialisms start. We recently supported the factory handling of a 48-ton generator during its Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), ensuring the equipment is safely assembled, positioned and prepared for inspection before it begins its journey to site.

What is a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)?

A Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) is a comprehensive inspection and testing process carried out at the manufacturer’s facility before equipment is delivered to its final location.

For large generators, a FAT allows the client to verify that the equipment has been manufactured correctly, operates as intended and meets the required performance specifications before shipment. Any adjustments or issues can be identified and resolved within the factory environment, helping to minimise delays and reduce installation risks once the generator arrives on site.

For projects of this size, the FAT is a critical milestone, providing confidence that the equipment is ready for transportation and final installation.

Our Role

Our specialist machinery moving team was responsible for the factory handling and assembly of the 48-ton generator ahead of the FAT.

Working alongside the manufacturer and project team, we carefully positioned and assembled the generator so it could undergo the required testing and inspections. Projects of this scale demand detailed planning, experienced personnel and specialist lifting equipment to ensure every component is handled safely and accurately.

Following the successful completion of the Factory Acceptance Test, the generator will be dismantled, prepared for transport and shipped to its destination.

Completing the Installation

Our involvement doesn’t stop once the generator leaves the factory.

When the equipment arrives on site, our team will once again take responsibility for the specialist handling, carefully unloading, reassembling and positioning the generator in its permanent location.

By managing both the factory handling and final installation, we help provide continuity throughout the project while ensuring the equipment is handled by the same experienced team from start to finish.

Specialist Generator Handling

Finch of Bookham has extensive experience in the movement, lifting and installation of large industrial generators, transformers and other critical plant equipment.

From Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and factory handling through to specialist transport, contract lifting and final installation, we work closely with manufacturers, contractors and end users to deliver safe, efficient and carefully planned lifting solutions across the globe.
