In 2018, Finch of Bookham installed a revolutionary atomizer-equipped 3D printer for a UK-based manufacturer, paving the way for cutting-edge additive manufacturing. Now, in 2024, we’re proud to dismantle and relocate this same equipment to the USA, marking another milestone in its journey of innovation. Contract lifting through the years.

What is a 3D Printer Atomizer?

Unlike traditional 3D printers that use heated filament pushed through an extruder (FDM), atomizer systems rely on a specialized print head and liquid polymer solutions.

The atomizer consists of a small nozzle attached to an ultrasonic transducer that vibrates at ultra-high frequencies. As the polymer flows through, ultrasonic energy transforms it into a fine mist of microscopic droplets. These droplets, smaller than 20 microns, are precisely sprayed onto the print bed in a layer-by-layer pattern.

Each droplet rapidly cures under UV light directed at the print area, solidifying the material and forming highly detailed parts. This inkjet-inspired method enables exceptional accuracy and intricate designs, making it ideal for advanced manufacturing applications.

The 2018 Installation

The initial installation required careful planning to ensure the atomizer system integrated seamlessly into the client’s facility. Our team worked with precision to handle and assemble this sophisticated technology, enabling the client to lead in high-detail manufacturing.

The 2024 Relocation

Six years later, the atomizer continues to prove its value. Now bound for the USA, it will be dismantled, transported, and reassembled by our expert team to meet new demands overseas. The move highlights the durability and adaptability of such systems in the ever-evolving world of 3D printing.
