"We had to relocate a 19th century Water Turbine from canal banks in Surrey to Telford. The loads totalled 60 tons. with one individual lift weighing 15 tons. Not a major problem, but when you've only got a 10 ton bridge to get over, we needed to look for specialists to help us. Finch surveyed the site several times and decided the only option was to lift the Turbine over the canal and over the building onto their transport. Finch supplied transport, slingers, mobile cranes, temporary roadway, wide load permits, and even removed and replaced lamp posts." The Ironbridge Gorge Museum : John ChallenThe Science Museum
"We needed to remove and relocate a Marine Steam Engine from our Exhibition Hall in South Kensington to our storage facility in Wiltshire. The engine weighed approximately 28 tons and needed to be dismantled to get it through an 8' doorway. It was located on a suspended floor, with a difference in floor levels of 4', Finch needed to liaise closely with our structural engineer, to ensure that any heavy lifting was carried out over the main support structures under the floor. Finch used a 100 ton gantry crane and built a 10 ton scaffold spanning these beams. All the equipment was removed on the scaffold ramp at night and the movement was completed within 7 days."
